ESCAPING BEING POOR IN A COUNTRY SINKING ECONOMICALLY

Escaping being poor in a poor country.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau made a statement due to the French Revolution centuries ago saying;

When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they’ll eat the rich”

That statement created a huge buzz on social media in 2020 when an economic prediction was made public stating that Jeff Bezos might be worth Trillions within some years to come. The truth is people in poor parts of the world have become too used to their disadvantages, it is beginning to make the culture of poverty creep into their lives. Because that is the only reason an educated Man with access to the internet and friends will think that Forbes Men are the reasons for his financial tribulations.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in a report about poverty and inequality from September 2018 — October 2019 said 40% of people in Nigeria lived below its poverty line of ₦137,430 ($381.75) per year.

“In Nigeria 40.1% of total population were classified as poor. In other words, on average 4 out of 10 Individuals in Nigeria has real per capita expenditures below 137,430 per year” stated by the NBS stats office

Then a report by the World poverty clock tells how Nigeria overtook India as the country with the most people living in multidimensional poverty.

These pieces of information are originally discouraging to the average Man but it should not be to someone who was able to afford reading this right now.

Surviving in a country bedridden with Poor people and Individuals earning average salaries is difficult but there is a way around it. This is not the time to start making excuses for what you studied in the higher institution. This is the time to ask yourself these questions.

What Values do I possess?

How can I help people solve a problem?

What people can I help solve this problem?

Is my solution valuable and marketable?

Will my target audience be able to afford my solution?

Nigeria is a country where people love things with value, people are always looking to earn more, they are always looking for various ways to leave the country whenever they can afford to, some are looking for easy ways to pass the famous IELTS exam, In summary, the population might be poor but they are still a very active audience.

A company that realised this recently is Rite Foods, the makers of Bigi Drink which is very popular in the South-Western part of the country, they quickly studied the market, created a drink that is similar to other soft drinks in the market, making it extremely cheaper and with more quantity per price, and to sum it up, made the marketing very present on social media where their target audience is located, they didn’t waste money spending more on Ads on NTA or AIT.

The audience here wants something and you can find 3–10 million Nigerians on social media from Facebook to Instagram and others. Instead of spending excessive time forwarding CVs to different organisations, Searching Google daily for ways to earn more, gambling daily on sports betting, etc. Invest in yourself, What this means is to create a Value that you can convert to Cash. And while doing this, always remember that good things do take time, you should learn to be patient.

Multiple IT skills are marketable globally, such as; AI, UI/UX, Blockchain, etc. But not everyone has the ability to become so great at Tech-related skills and not everyone can afford the fee to acquire such skills. So why not focus your energy on other aspects such as; Copywriting, Digital Marketing, SEO, etc. Whatever you do. Stop making excuses. Convert your excuses to actions.

If you belong to the Tech-related sphere, then platforms like Upwork and Fiverr would be your best bet for a start or an internship to gather experience in a local company would help as well.

If you belong to the Copywriting set, Then the best bet for you is to perfect your skill and get ready to work very hard without relenting. The best bet is the famous Affiliate Marketing for someone who wants to have an audience already or wants to learn how to build one.

Toyin Omotosho, A famous digital marketer for some years now has a package that has helped a lot of Nigerians earn and garner very solid knowledge ranging from; WhatsApp marketing, email marketing, Copywriting, Facebook & Instagram ads to lots more. The most surprising part of this package is how you can use the knowledge for lots more apart from affiliate marketing. Then the best part is an affiliate marketer with the knowledge from that package earns weekly and as high as ₦450,000 per month.

The time one spends negotiating “To do or not to do” is the time another person is making millions. The richest in a family of extremely poor people is the one who dared to do either of the following:

  • Work smarter (Not harder)
  • Narrows down his focus and worked harder on it
  • Take well calculated investment risks
  • Learns from failure and try again
  • Always prepared for whatever opportunity that comes
  • Does things way different
  • There are others that you can jot down and make sure you are doing.
