Escaping Financial Inadequacy In Nigeria As An Undergraduate or Graduate

There is absolutely no need to talk about how difficult it is for Graduates to get a job after graduation in Nigeria. It is so hard the National Bureau of statistics puts youth unemployment in Nigeria at 42%. That is extremely alarming.

For those who even go as far as getting a job. The salary is often ridiculous, imagine living on a salary of ₦70,000 ($169) per month. Worse is you could lose your job at any time due to the nonexistence of Job security.

As if that’s not bad enough, Price inflation is at 22% and the Naira is been devalued on regular making things extremely expensive and prices forever escalating. An example is this; A friend bought a TV for 65k in January 2020, That TV is currently selling for 125k. The same goes for food prices and the price of services rendered by workmen.

A graduate hawking his qualification

Life is hard, School is even easier because you had an excuse to be broke or poor. Unlike the many Graduates, we have to roam the street and the internet, without a plan or job that makes any sense. You can be different and you will be different.

Why? Because you are reading this article.

Some have been in school for as long as 2 years or more and they are relaxed expecting that life would start after they graduate, feeling like their petty side hustle that lacks long term ROI (Return of Investment) is enough to make a living after school. Some are not acquiring additional skills that would make them employable by big firms or foreign countries after graduation.

PERMIT ME TO SHOCK YOU NOW

Here are the things you have been doing wrong and this mistakes will cost you a lot of you don’t fix them now.

  • MISUSING THE INTERNET!
  • GIVING TOO MUCH EXCUSES!
  • FORGETTING THAT YOU’RE GROWING OLD!

There are so many things to gain from the use of a smartphone/laptop that is connected to the internet. I got my first paying job in USD using my smartphone and writing for companies based in the USA while I was still a student in Nigeria. Money is all over the internet and all you need to do is position yourself in a place where you can attract it by offering people a valuable solution. You can do this and still catch your fun.

The use of the Internet to make money does not stop you from chatting, watching K Dramas, or flirting with everyone on your contact list. It is hard at first, but along the line, you learn how easy and intuitive it really is. Plus YOU GET TO MAKE MONEY FROM PRESSING YOUR PHONE AND IT COULD BE IN DOLLARS

Before we go further, Picture yourself acquiring a digital skill while still a student and making your money off the internet before graduating, now picture yourself few years after graduation and you’ll see how valuable you’ll be in the field you choose.

Excuses have stopped so many Nigerian Students and fresh graduates from making it in life. This excuses could be;

I don’t have money to start

I don’t have the time as a student

This thing is too hard, I can’t cope

My Parents will always provide for me

I’m a student

Let me graduate first

& Lots more!

Trust me, excuses have and will always remain the poor man’s greatest weapon against wealth.

Do not fall into any of those categories, if you groom yourself to always believe you don’t have the money or you cannot do it, it will always be exactly that way. Life is all about determination and dedication coupled with a very powerful mindset.

In a country such as Nigeria that is structured to make you fail as a Youth trying to make money legitimately, you must be ready to try harder than the regular youth, except you’re not ready to see changes in the long run.

  • Borrow a startup fund, solicit for funds from friends or family to invest in an high income skill if you have to.
  • Start working on that great business idea now, no matter how small the execution might be.
  • Make sure you are doing something that would pay you in millions in years to come, something based on the internet that is not regulated by the Nigerian government.

You have no excuse. I am a Copywriter, Affiliate Marketer and consultant for folks interested in starting up a business online and I’m a student, so what is your excuse? I started by using my allowance and borrowing from the friends I created when I built my connection. So what’s your excuse? Now let’s talk further.

KILL THE EXCUSES AND READ ON

Now let’s talk reality. You’re getting old and you may not know this. The world doesn’t wait around because your country is messed up so how exactly does one go about it? By realising that it’s time to start making moves and celebrating small wins that would result in a bigger win.

I’ve talked with many students who went as far as complaining that a 4-week course program was too difficult and tasking. Now imagine you have been in school for years reading, writing and trekking vigorously learning a course that doesn’t guarantee you money after graduation. This same course has the right to fail you countless times even after you’ve spent thousands on foodstuff and fees staying far from your family house.

But this 4-week course would teach you and impact a new high-income digital skill in you that would make you your FIRST MILLIONS in at least 12 months if you are determined enough. Consider the fact that you may be paid a one-time fee of maybe 150k to acquire a certain digital skill and after implementation of everything you learnt, you started earning $100+ every month. That is the best ROI (Return of Investment) anyone can ask for.

That analysis would be explained with the story of a Friend — Efe, He stumbled across a course on Copywriting when he was in 300L, he knew he could learn this same skill free off YouTube and Twitter but decided to buy the course of Nigeria’s best Copywriter since he knows the Course has produced Millionaires. Efe did not earn $1 in a year after purchasing the course, I was always mocking his decision and the outcome. He did not relent, instead, he was always tweaking his Copywriting style and today while I type this, Efe is a graduate that sits at home all day and makes at least $2000 per month from Copywriting. He is also into Crypto making mad money as well.

Interesting? Let’s talk a bit more before I let you go.

As a student or a fresh graduate, there are things I always advise you do, Make sure your source of income doesn’t depend on the labour market and don’t have one stream of income.

Start building your passive income now while you still have the privilege.

A friend once asked me

If your Dad was to Die today, What would become of you

Very deep! But that question made me what I am today. We should not sit back and wait for doom or reality to make us realise what we should have done. Many students wasted 2020 sitting at home doing absolutely nothing productive. Don’t repeat that mistake.

You can start any of the highest paying businesses online today and earn yourself a good life after NYSC. You don’t want Post-Nysc depression to slap you on your face.

Focus on these skills and check google for more according to what you know you can do.
